45 US dollars
Easel & Wheel Art Space - Main Building

Service Description

In this one-day, two-hour workshop, you are given a professionally-thrown porcelain cup or you can hand build your own. Then we will explore out-of-pocket handle design, rethinking all of the weird ways you can make a handle besides the traditional forms. VALUABLE SKILLS UNLOCKED: Alternative design problem solving, modeling, additive and subtractive sculpture, underglaze painting, slipping/scoring and joinery We work with porcelain clay for a durable, high-fire piece that is fully functional and a great conversation piece you'll love making. Our art coaches will fire a glaze your vessel with a clear glaze after you color it with underglaze ("paint"), if desired. Should you wish to glaze a different color glaze, please enroll in our Glaze class to do so. Work is available for pick-up after adequate drying and firing time, generally within three weeks. Attendees will be notified when the pieces are ready.
